Today the 3rd of December is #InternationalDayofPeoplewithDisability. The theme for 2020 is invisible disabilities. One of the main challenges is that there is no visible clue that someone needs extra support or what kind of support etc. That is why as a society we need to focus on approaching each other from a place of compassion. We need to shift our mis-understanding of human behaviour as a society and be re-educated as a species to truly understand and respect the individual needs of every person, to make relational safety the default for all interactions, to see all behaviour as communication and offer support accordingly so the individual can return to a state of regulation and a feeling of safety. Listening to the lived experience of disability as the primary experts and sources of information in relation to disability and more than just listening, but believing and acting on what they are saying.
